Yesterday tweeters from all around South Africa met up to donate blankets at various spots around the country for the Twitter Blanket Drive which had been promoted using the #TBD hashtag.  Melanie Minnaar is the tweeter behind the event, and this was the second year that she organised this event in time for the coldest winter nights.  I was determined to make it this year, as last year, a charity that I’d done work with had been the recipient of some of the donations and I wasn’t able to attend.

I went to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank last night with my kids to donate our blankets… I’d bought 10 baby blankets instead of the adult blankets that everyone had been talking about during the day.  We didn’t stay very long because the kids hadn’t eaten yet (in fact I wish I’d known that there were going to be talks by the charities)… and they were running riot in the hotel after only about 20 minutes. But I did manage to meet quite a few people that I’ve been chatting to for years, but never actually met in real life :) ) the sign of a good tweet up!

I’m dying to find out how many blankets were actually collected, but from the looks of the pile in the hotel it was an enormous amount :) well done to the whole team that put this year’s event together

I was stoked to finally meet Norwin and Ledlet and their son JB (the little blonde boy in the blankets).  If you don’t read his blog, you should, JB is most amazing.

Haha and Walter Pike did some planking on the blankets :)

Even DJ Fresh was in the mix…

I’ve had a run of good luck with competitions on Twitter and Facebook.

I received the Sun Sniper strap that I won in an Advent calendar competition – which is still being run actually and you can still win!!

It’s quite an awesome camera strap for being a photog in South Africa actually.  It replaces the normal camera strap, and you screw it into the base of the camera where your tripod connection is.  And it’s got a steel strip built into the strap, and it cannot be cut.

Then, I got a phone call from Kalahari on Friday to tell me that I’d won a 23″ Samsung monitor in a Twitter and Facebook competition where I retweeted about the competition and followed them on FB to enter.  Cool hey?! I’m expecting that to arrive tomorrow, and it was such good timing because I was trying to figure out last week how to afford a second monitor for my photo editing! Now I’m going to have to buy a bigger desk though to fit this big screen :) How very cool!! Cannot wait to get it!

When I mentioned this to my colleagues today, they said I should buy a lotto ticket :)

A whole bunch of bloggers and tweeters met up this morning for a brunch/lunch at the River Cafe in Sandton this morning.  It was organised by Wenchy and it was great to see great to see everyone again, and to meet a few new faces.
And of course I had my camera, as did most other people so there are umpteen numbers of photos flying around the interwebs with proof of the happenings of the day :)

Gina’s Aaron was quite comfortable with the camera, and the opposite photo is on her blog ;)

Meea’s Michael was such a chatterbox and kept Bradley company.  It was great to see him make a new friend today.

Sally‘s Rachel and Sharon‘s Josh kept each other company for 5 minutes on the swings

I really liked Jessica‘s new t-shirt :)

And then we had to leave, because Connor started getting “attacked” by bees, and he was petrified and yelling the place down. He had a close call when he squished a bee between his arm and his eye, and thankfully didn’t get stung! But that was enough excitement for me for the day, so I called it quits and headed home with 2 tired boys :)

The 27 dinner was held at Primi in the Design Quarter in Fourways this month… and the venue was perfect this month!  It was  more social occasion this month without a speaker, but I met a whole host of people I’ve never met before… and I finally found other people with Pokens!

I took photos at The Kid’s first birthday party last year, and it was really cool to be invited again and to take some photos again.

My kids had a ball, and Connor is now fast asleep, and Bradley relaxing on the couch downstairs moaning that his back is sore from sliding down the water slide.

How gorgeous is this 3D Dinosaur cake made by @meeaparkins ?
