Angel organised this photo shoot for her extended family months ago, and the location of the shoot changed a few times over the period, and it was a bit of a mission getting hold of the station for this shoot… but oh my… was it worth it!! The Friends of the Rail station in Hermanstad was just perfect for the shoot, and just like the last time I went there, we had the run of the place and could go where we wanted to go.

As I was exporting today’s photos from my camera this evening, I noticed that the I Heart Faces theme for the week was “Vroom Vroom”.  What luck!! I had something to post for a change!  LOL!

This post’s alternative title should really be “Why the Woolworths food aisle is bad for mothers”.  Every single time we go grocery shopping, Connor whines and whinges until I buy him a “Thomas Egg”  These tiny little Thomas Tank Engine trains are to be found in the middle of chocolate eggs.  Connor is determined to get the full set, but as you can see we have ended up with quite a few doubles in the process.

I just love using my 50mm at night in my kitchen with the granite counter… the reflections are awesome!

Angel and Neels have had a full run of photos for their wedding, from the engagement photos to their #Anglugs wedding which was a few weeks ago, and today it was their Trash the Dress shoot.

A Trash the Dress shoot is also known as a “Rock the Frock” shoot or a “Cherish the Dress” or “Day After” shoot and because it’s done after the rush of the wedding day, it’s a much more relaxed affair and allows the bride to wear her dress again… and this time it doesn’t really matter if it gets a little grubby in the process. You don’t really literally trash the dress ;)

The second part of their Trash the Dress shoot was done in an old train yard (the first part was in her kitchen with her making cupcakes). Friends of the Rail kindly allowed us to use their Hermanstad station for the shoot, and it was AWESOME! The station was deserted apart from the volunteers who were getting it ready for the Woman’s Day steam train ride happening tomorrow, and they let us have full use of all the facilities, including allowing us to clamber into the old carriages and onto the locomotives :)

We had a blast!! I can definitely recommend doing a Day After shoot when you get married :) it’s just so much fun!

I was not happy that I missed the first Gautrain ride last week, so I was determined to go with the kids this week.  So taking the 2 days off between the public holiday and weekend made perfect sense… and the kids got to go on a train for the very first time :)

Lance was a little upset that I planned this for a week day because he didn’t come with… and I invited my mom to come along too!

It was great, albeit a little expensive as an outing with R200 per person (from Sandton to OR Tambo and back again) with a lunch at the airport in between and the parking and the sweets that you end up buying along the way too… but worth it!  I was a little thankful, actually, that I didn’t have to pay for Connor as he’s still 3 years old!

A plane must’ve arrived from Ghana while we were having lunch, and we had to go and see where teh singing was coming from. It was so awesome to see this bunch of World Cup soccer supporters in the airport with vuvuzelas singing and dancing and laughing. If the kids weren’t with me, I would have gone downstairs to get closer to the action, but we watched from above.

All in all, it was an excellent experience.  The kids loved the super fast escalators that zoom down in the Sandton Station.  The train trip was awesome.  The platforms were superb, and reminded me of the Canary Wharf tube stations in London; and the security guards in the carriages and on the stations were on the ball. It was well worth it, and we’re definitely going to use it to get to the airport!

If you’re wondering what equipment I used for the photos; I only used my new Canon 24-70mm f2.8 lens, and I must say I could’ve done with my longer lens, especially when the Ghanaians were singing and dancing in the airport. I didn’t use a flash at all.

**Edited… Portfoli0 Collection has published a few more of my photos of the train too, so take a look there as well

I took the kids to a gathering of online forum moms at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens on Sunday to have an Easter Egg Hunt.  It was SUCH a relaxing morning for me… and the kids were completely exhausted by the time we left.  Hehe, mostly because Natasha‘s fiance ran around after all the kids and took them exploring to the waterfall and all over the gardens before they all had a ride on the “train”, while I chatted and ate the picnic food and drank some wine!  The perfect day!

Connor wasn’t too sure about going for the ride without me, but he was so brave, and sat very close to his brother for protection.
