167/365 – the boys at play

I’ve got a weekend off this weekend with no photoshoots, so I took photos of the kids playing at home instead. The new swords and knife play sets were bought yesterday as a result of good behaviour.

We’ve been using star charts recently. They’ve been working like a charm, and yesterday’s toys were as a result of Connor finally pooing in the toilet for 2 weeks consecutively, and Bradley getting to bed on time and helping around the house!

I was actually surprised that they chose such cheap toys… R40 each!! And I’d promised Connor almost the world if he poo’ed (a Bruder digger costing R400 and Toy Story lego set costing R300) and he rejected them all in the end for the cheap option. That made me even more happy!! And look how they both enjoyed playing with them too!

These are my Weekly Winners for Lotus’ challenge

Well done Connor… :)

This reminded me so much of Kevin and Liam when they were small. The swords stuck in the back of the tops… bashing down things. :)

Proof you don’t need expensive toys to have a total blast… the looks on their faces. They’re so intense into their play. I remember those days… LOVE the shot of the ring. VERY cool catch.

JessicaGiggles (13 comments.) - June 20, 2010 - 8:53 pm

I absolutely love these pics! And it’s great that the most fun is usually had with the cheapest items!

Sarah (9 comments.) - June 20, 2010 - 8:07 pm

I have daughters so the toys are totally different but I love their fierce faces as they play with their new toys! Looks like they’re having fun!

Sarah (1 comments.) - June 20, 2010 - 6:48 pm

The fierce faces are TOO cute!!
I’ve seen those toys at Toys R Us here, and have considered them for my son!

What fun photos! Mine have that sword & shield set too

Secret Agent Mama - Mishelle Lane (84 comments.) - June 20, 2010 - 3:23 pm

I’ve tried to bribe David and he still won’t toilet train. I must have the most stubborn kid in the world. Takes after his mother, I guess. ;)

What’s the R equivalent to in dollars?

Looks like the boys had quite a tournament. Conner’s ‘game face’ is very intimidating.

159/365 – Watching Bafana at home

Unlike the excitement of Wednesday’s happenings in Sandton, today’s opening World Cup match was a subdued affair for me.  I watched the opening ceremony at my parent’s house with my parents and the boys; while Lance watched it at work.

It wasn’t completely quiet though, because you could hear the constant blasts from vuvuzelas around the neighbourhood, and, from the garden where Elaine’s friends and the boys contributed to the racket.  Bryan and friends tested out the vuvuzelas and kuduzelas before they left to spend the afternoon in a pub… and of course I had to take photos:)

It was actually so awesome to see and feel the patriotism today.  Almost everyone was dressed in yellow and green, and loads of people had SA flag tattoos and faces painted (Connor’s face was painted by his teacher)… and everyone was making a noise with vuvuzelas and other types of horns.

We actually didn’t spend the entire time at my parents house, and we left during the match to go to the local Spar shop and then go home to the dogs.  As we were standing in the queue at the shops, we watched Bafana score the goal on the TV that was mounted on the wall.  And the place erupted.  It was so cool to be somewhere with excitement at that time.  The store cashiers went nuts, and the store managers just laughed along with them all!  They were running around, blowing vuvuzelas, laughing, jumping, and one lady was crying.  It was so cool for the boys to experience the excitement (they were a little taken aback at first actually because it erupted so quickly).

When we got home, we carried on watching, and this time Bradley was a little more interested.  When one of the players kicked the ball and it hit the post he piped us “That’s what happens when you don’t aim”.  LOL I suppose he’s right:)

Even though Bafana drew against Mexico in the match, I think they did an awesome job… the made us even more proud.

I want the boys to experience more of the World Cup now… I’m going to take some leave next week and I’m thinking of taking them to a “quiet” fan park.

Glugs and I also watched at home, and I was baking at the same time, but it was very exciting and I could also hear the vuvus from all around the neighbourhood.

Carrie Keiser (16 comments.) - June 12, 2010 - 11:18 pm

Sounds like a good day. Love those horns.

BEAUTIFUL shots! I’m so excited for your family and your country to get all of the positive attention so we can learn more about it.

As much as the vuvuzela’s are crazy-annoying to hear on TV, they are beautiful to look at and I’m sure fun to play.

Glad they experienced the excitement and vibe in the shops! Elaine said the pub’s atmosphere was brilliant!

115/365 – Odd Man Out

It was another cold and rainy day today, and far too dark for outside photos by the time I got home… then I spotted rows and rows of cars that Bradley had painstakingly lined up on the coffee table… yay!! I had a subject for today’s photo!

A few weeks ago there was an article about toy photography on Two Photogs and a competition (which I missed), and I meant to take some photos then, but just didn’t get around to it.  After editing this photo today, I went to Flickr to investigate and was amazed at how many groups there are around… all dedicated to toy photography… there’s even a group doing a 365 project with toys!!  My favourite group has to be the Secret Life of Toys;)  I can so use that as a topic for my 365!

Great one! I have also done my share of toys, but did not realize that there are actually groups for it.

cat@juggling act (187 comments.) - February 18, 2010 - 8:32 am

Oh I forgot – The Lil Miss also got from my FIL a dinosaur computer – an electronic thing with dinosaur facts that you get at Game. Her 10 year old cousins are still fascinated by it.

cat@juggling act (187 comments.) - February 18, 2010 - 8:30 am

Oh this is such a cool shot. The Lil Miss got one from my MIL that is about 45 cm long – huge! A beast. Are these that big? (i have never actually seen the really big ones in a shop)

Janet B (48 comments.) - February 18, 2010 - 8:23 am

Jeepers! That could be a scene from Jurassic Park – no kidding!

Avril (Mom) (385 comments.) - February 18, 2010 - 7:11 am

Dinosaur land!!! Our houses are filled with dinosaurs!! I would guess many more than 70!!!!
Great photo .. dark and gloomy !

Anelle (47 comments.) - February 17, 2010 - 11:12 pm

6 boys just shouted COOL!!!!!! When I opened this, Jeanette! :-)

Jeanette (27 comments.) - February 17, 2010 - 10:50 pm

@Marilyn both boys have been obsessed, so between my mom’s house and our house we must have close to 70 or so, and not to forget the DVD’s and 6 encyclopedias on the subject too!

Marylin (29 comments.) - February 17, 2010 - 10:32 pm

Hehe aww bless! How many dinosaurs do you guys have now? :)

Tanya (83 comments.) - February 17, 2010 - 10:19 pm

lol Jeanette I have never seen as many dinos as you guys have :) :) I love it!! this shot is great!! LOVE the DOF and the shading :)

40/365 – An Angel 90% of the time

Connor’s gorgeous new t-shirt is from Babytees (who are running a competition at the moment to win 2 tickets to see Kelly Clarkson if you order in February), and it’s such a sweet shirt for him!  I LOVE their other shirts btw because they’re so damn funky and they sell black babygrows and t-shirt for babies and toddlers!  Wish they’d been around when he was a baby actually.

Anyhoo, back to my photos… I took these photos because the theme for this week’s Female2Female challenge is “Blue” which is such an easy theme when you have boys in the house;)

I couldn’t exactly post one photo, there was no way I could choose just one… so here are a random selection from the half an hour’s play after I got home from work this evening.  They just speak to the busy-ness that is an almost 3 year old boy:)
