I had the pleasure of taking photos of the Owen family on Sunday afternoon at the ruin in Muldersdrift.

L and K have a 2 year old son, T, who is getting a baby sister in a few weeks time, which he’s not too concerned about at all.  He had an absolute ball in the old house; using old bricks as balls, playing with guinea fowl feathers and using grass strands as swords; and was not at all interesting in my attempts to getting photos of him with his parents.  We had to work very fast to get some family shots before he ran off to discover something new.

I enjoyed the afternoon, and I think that I captured the essence of the family, so I hope they like the more family oriented photo-journalistic style of maternity photos that are in this sneak peak.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, we drove to Parys on Sunday to visit MIL. And what would a trip to Parys be without some photos of the dry Freestate landscape taken through the window of the car as we’re whizzing on the highway ;)

You might wonder why we never stop.  Partly because we just want to get there and then home again, and partly because of the boys.  If Lance had to stop the car and I had to get out, we’d have 2 boys whining and crying that they also want to get out… and then it’ll take half an hour per stop instead of 5 minutes.  So I take the photos at high speed instead and thereby testing my fast shutter speed abilities :)

But you’ll be excited to hear, Lance has agreed to go on a photo drive this coming Sunday! Woohoo! That’s a first!  Hopefully I’ll find new ruins and gorgeous winter coloured landscapes to take photos of.  And we’ll actually be able to stop because we won’t be in a hurry!

Ruin in the veld

We saw so many veld fires (grass fires) on the road, that I had to try and capture one of them.  The air was very smoky as we drove into Johannesburg again.

Hehe, and this post all about landscapes is just after my interview on Nerdmag explains how this is my least favourite type of photography

As promised yesterday, here are more photos from our Trash the Dress photo session we had on Sunday afternoon.   These are mostly from the veld around the ruin, and on the road.

If it wasn’t for the grass in front of Jess’ face, this would be my fave for the day… I just didn’t have enough hands to move the grass and hold the camera and take the shot!

Going home

It was quite funny when we got to taking the photos on the road.  All the cars driving past slowed down to a snails pace and then started hooting.  We literally stopped the traffic… not that there was much though ;)

And that’s the end, I cannot wait to do another shoot like this, it was HUGE amounts of fun!

What fun!! A few weeks ago, a few friends and acquaintances on a local online moms forum decided to organise a Trash the Dress photo session – for fun and for portfolio building.

A Trash the Dress session isn’t  about destroying the dress, it’s more about going somewhere and doing something in the dress that you wouldn’t ordinarily do.

After much deliberation about the venue, we eventually decided to go to the ruin in Muldersdrift where I’d taken photos of my sister last year.  I warned everyone that there would be bundu-bashing involved, but I’m not sure everyone realised just how overgrown the place was… we had to make our own path from the road!

But it was more than worth it!  I had an absolute ball.  There were 5 photographers including myself, Suz, Colleen, Mandi and Fiona; and we had 3 ladies in wedding dresses and 2 in evening gowns.

First up are photos of the 3 brides, and then the entourage of photographers…

I got so many good shots, that I cannot possibly put them all into one blog post, so I post more on Tuesday.

I had the pleasure of taking photos of my gorgeous sister, Elaine, and her equally gorgeous best friend, Robyn, this morning.  We had loads of fun on a friend’s farm between Tarlton and Magaliesburg today, even though it was icily cold!  The plan was to take photos of the two of them in evening wear as well as casual clothes, and although they schlepped their fancy clothes all around the farm, it just never warmed up enough for them to change.

I love how the photos turned out though… they’ve never had photos taken of the two of them before, even though they’ve been friends from early school days.
