“Nic-nic” is Connor’s way of saying picnic, and that’s exactly what we did this afternoon. We took our lunch, scooters and a couple of balls to Emmerentia and took advantage of the gloriously warm weather. The only thing that was missing was green grass, as you can see the grass still thinks it’s winter time as the summer rains haven’t started yet.
There was running…

… and chasing…

… and more running…l21

…and walking amongst the trees…

… and making music with sticks…

… and chasing Daddy…

… and watching radio controlled helicopters…

… and finally feeding the ducks

And those are this week’s Weekly Winners.
I took these photos of my boys on the last day of our holiday. It was quite a cold afternoon and we went to the beach for the last time, and I just had to take some photos of them (as if I didn’t have enough).
First up, my littlest, Connor who is now 2 and a half

Next up, Bradley who is 6, and was so very tired of my taking photos that he wasn’t interested in doing anything really, but I like them anyway…

And lastly, the most elusive Lance, who hates his mug being shot

Lance is not my most willing subject, but I managed to convince him to stand still for 5 minutes while we were away on Friday afternoon for one or two photos. Maybe next time, he’ll actually face the camera

We took the kids to the Military Museum on Monday, primarily to scout the place out as a shoot location… but I found it sadly lacking for artistic inspiration.
Anyhoo, it was a nice morning out, and I’m glad we actually went there. Lance and I haven’t been there since our school days. It was fascinating and depressing. I actually found it quite sad looking at the bullet ridden planes, and old uniforms and the guns etc.
I suppose that’s the aim of the place in the end… to make sure we don’t forget. Some of the exhibits that stand out for me are the German planes from the World Wars (it reminded me of the school project I did on WW2 that my grandfather helped me with); shooting plaques from Rhodesia (because that’s where I was born); uniforms from the Angolan and SWA conflicts (I remember school friends’ brothers and fathers fighting that war); and Lance showing Bradley which weapons he used when he was in the army (he was a weapons instructor). Funny, that most of the things I remember about the place, have got some personal link to me and my own history.

It’s Lance’s birthday today, and we bought him a hammock
He’s been wanting one for years, so I hope he’s going to get a lot of use out of it! It’s one of those free-standing ones… because our trees in the garden are not big enough.
I just love the smirk on his face

When I took the kids to the shops today to buy food and get a cake from the local home industry, I was telling them that we needed to put candles on his cake so that we could sing “Happy Birthday”. Bradley quickly replied that we only had 2 candles at home, and Daddy was going to be very upset that we didn’t have enough!
Hehe, I somehow doubt that
