232/365 – Just a girl

Carmen and Andrew spent the day at our house today… and I just had to take a few photos of Carmen before Madelein went took them home this evening.  She’s a beautiful child, and my camera just loves her:)  She’s also all of a sudden looking a little bit more grown up, than the last time I took photos of her.

See the full set of 2010 photo-a-day photos on my Project 365 Flickr Set.

P.S. The person I need to check the date change for our shoot is off as her mom died…

27 Dinner at Rocket Restaurant

The 27 Dinner was held at the Rocket Restaurant in Rivonia this evening, and it rocked! The venue rocked, the food and drinks (sponsored by FNB) rocked, the speakers rocked and the crowd was great tonight.  For some reason, I got to speak to more people tonight than I have done in the last few 27 Dinners.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

The twitterfall in action with the #27dinner hashtag

Not sure what Brett Haggard was up to here:)

And what’s a geek gettogether without a macbook?  Not sure what Walter Pike, Paul Bedford and Kerry Haggard were doing:)

Chris Savides from FNB spoke about Paypal’s new developer competition and how FNB will sponsor one SA development company a trip to San Francisco; and some of their plans to extend the Paypal offering to Rands and he spoke about transaction kickbacks for eCommerce developers when integrating their client applications. It’s a real pity he couldn’t talk about how many users there are in South Africa however, and how much growth there is… the only thing he would say was that the numbers are bigger than we all think.

Philly_girl tweeting again and Saulk

eBucks CEO Yolande

Jessica got very excited with all the food, but was seriously only interested in the desserts:)

Then Achal Prabhala, who is based in Bangalore, India; and works on the advisory board of the Wikimedia foundation spoke about Wikipedia and how they are trying to grow it in South Africa. This sparked quite a few comments about how people had tried to edit some articles etc and the problems they’ve experienced… and basically he just said that you just need to try again because the process has changed and is more robust.

Melody Maker tweeting

… and Elan tweeting too…

Lastly, Rabin Harduth did a little stand up comedy before the most amazing brownies arrived…. ooh… and the most decadent hot chocolate too!

EveD enjoyed the joke

Some networking… what the 27 dinner is all about:)

Poor Craig‘s car broke down on the way there, but he was determined… and got there a few minutes before I had to leave

Samuraibunny and Telana

It was an awesome evening… thanks very much to Cerebra for organising it!

cat@juggling act (218 comments.) - July 28, 2010 - 8:29 pm

Oh boy, look at that hot chocolate idea!

Tanya (50 comments.) - July 28, 2010 - 1:41 pm

the photo of the hot chocolate is beautiful!!

Fiona - July 28, 2010 - 11:47 am

How weird ~ I’m almost certain I replied to this earlier this morning but I don’t see my comment. Anyhoo I was saying that the 27 Dinners look like so much fun and that Don and I really must make a plan to come one evening.

Love the last photo of the hot chocolate and flake ~ it looks like it should be in a menu :)

Henti Smith (16 comments.) - July 28, 2010 - 10:37 am

damn .. I missed another dinner *sigh* .. I really have to figure out a way to track events and auto insert into my calendar

Looks like you guys had fun :)

Angel and Neels’ Wedding at Helderfontein Estate

“You work, you play, and then, one day…  Love…  Just happens!”

That little quote was on the wedding invitations sent out by Angel and Neels for their wedding.  The South African blogging scene’s wedding of the year happened yesterday at Helderfontein Estate in Johannesburg, and I was very privileged to get asked by Angel and Neels to be the photographer for their special day.

Sheena wrote a blog post the other day about how Angel and Neels’ met, and in fact, there have been quite a few blog posts across the blogosphere recently about this amazing couple and the way they have touched people’s lives via the net over the last few years.  The blog post written by Cath and read out on the day, actually made me cry. As a result, the hall was filled by local bloggers and tweeters, and in fact a few even travelled from Cape Town and Durban to share this special day with the couple.  In fact, Don Packett (who was the MC for the reception) relayed a conversation he’d had with Paul Jacobson where they were discussing that should the event implode for some reason, that Twitter would be a very very quiet place  in South Africa:)

The rest of the webosphere and family and friends from across the world that couldn’t attend watched the event live via a Ustream channel (the first wedding to live stream in South Africa) and by following the conversations on Twitter with the hashtag #AnGlugWedding.  Cool hey?!

Angel looked like a dream… and Neels’ face when he saw her for the first time was just incredible (they’d decided to have a First Look, and met up before the wedding and we did most of their couple photos then which was a good idea considering the light was gone by the time the family photos were finished)

The dress was designed by Christa B, it was just so very Angel.

The wedding was superb and every detail was so well thought out and everything went like clockwork on the day:)  Angel organised the whole occasion herself, and outsourced everything apart from making her own cupcakes… which were absolutely divine!

It was just an amazing day and evening… filled with love and laughter.

I was seconded by Kat Forsyth for the day… it was the first time I’d worked with another photographer at a wedding, and I did enjoy it… apart from me forgetting a few times that she’d already taken certain photos and then trying to do them again.  All the photos in this blog post are my own (I know… too many but anyhoo)… and she’ll post a few in the next few days.

I just loved Neels’ face when he saw her for the first time before the ceremony (called the “first look”). It’s awesome doing it that way, because by the time the ceremony started everyone was a lot more relaxed.

We then did the couple shoot…

There were a few minutes to spare before the ceremony, so Angel relaxed in the bridal suite and following the #AnGlugWedding hashtag on twitter for a bit

Isn’t her dress just gorgeous?

Angel and Neels’ shared some cupcakes after the ceremony before we went to do the family photos, and the guests started having fun in the photobooth

The MC for the evening was Don Packett

… and he played the funniest game with them… they know each other quite well…

… awww and the first dance was beautiful… all their hard work paid off

The guys doing the live streaming…

And there are a few more photos in an album on my Facebook page too…

Jenty you really did such a wonderful job of covering this beautiful wedding. You capture every moment so spectacularly. Angel made an absolutely breath-taking bride and Neels was a dashing groom who had a grin on his face every time I looked at him.

What a special occasion, I’m so glad we could be a part of their happy day.

182/365 – Nicola is 6 months old

Nicola and mom came to see our husky puppies today and have a cup of coffee… and once I saw how cute Nicola had got (I took her newborn photos), and how BIG her eyes were, I just HAD to get my camera out for a few impromptu photos:)  much to Louisa‘s dismay (she said that if she’d know she would have brushed her hair before they came).

But man, isn’t she just the cutest?!

Angel’s Pamper Party

Angel‘s Pamper Party was held today and as you can see from the photos below, everyone was asked to wear red and purple:)  It was such a fun afternoon with a few games and loads of laughter… and she even baked cupcakes for her own party!

It was fabulous to see so many blogging ladies together with her family and friends… and not to mention Briget, who drove from Durban especially for the event!! How special is that?!

Heidi and Sheena

Briget (and she didn’t believe I would put a photo of her on my blog tonight;)) and Laura

Ready for the games

As you can see, Angel and Stef didn’t waste any time trying to sabotage the others attempts with the cotton wool (including a blogger I’d never met before, Alida)

Angel had to dress a “likeness” of Glugster

Laughing with Exmi

I had to show you photos of Sheena’s gift. It was just simply too awesome for words… the card said “Angel’s Marriage Survival Kit”! So much effort went into it, and I actually had tears at times listening to the messages (I know, I’m a softy). The box was filled with little gifts, each one with a tag and a message for them. It had things like earbuds for when he’s not listening, and a sewing kit for mending them when they’re hurting, and a reminder for her to get her hair done sometimes and granny panties to remind her to be sexy and some tiger socks (can’t remember why) etc etc… ahh man, it was just so awesome!

And lastly, definitely the gift that came the furthest…

And so now the countdown to the wedding really heats up… 3 weeks to go before the big day!! Stay tuned for those photos (I’m the official photographer for the event and I’m so excited about it!)

Jane (27 comments.) - July 10, 2010 - 1:45 pm

Totally fabulous!!!
