174/365 – it’s my birthday

I’ve had a good birthday today.  Quiet… but good.

The stuff list on my other blog was just the trick, and I got a whole host of things from the list:)Because I didn’t get up to much apart from shopping and kids stuff and having dinner at my parents’ house, I thought I’d make today’s blog post with photos taken everywhere I went (apart from the shops)

My birthday actually started last night, when Madelein and her clan came over and we ordered take-away pizza from Colcacchios… that has to be the BEST take-away pizza we’ve ever had… and we managed to order wheat free pizza too!

I got so many compliments today about this perfume… even Connor told me that I smelt really nice:)

I finally, finally have something from Le Creussett

Oh and I just love these tulips that I got from my mom yesterday… and I just discovered the macro function on my new lens!!

I went to the opening of Tranquil Body Therapy at their market stall in Lifestyle Garden Centre… definitely buying stuff when I go there again tomorrow as I’ve discovered that Leigh-Ann’s (she owns it) kids creams are made without sulphur and sulphates!!   And the mens range looks quite good too.

Then it was dog walking time in the most beautiful golden light

And finally my mom’s famous chocolate cake…

See the full set of 2010 photo-a-day photos on my Project 365 Flickr Set.

Lazy Sunday afternoon with friends

Madi and her family came over for a braai on Sunday, and it was the first time this summer that we’ve really been able to use the pool (it was kinda outta action for a while).  The kids had a blast as you can see…

While Bradley and Andrew were taking turns jumping into the pool…

Mid air

Woohoo

… the littlies played in the baby pool attached to the main pool…

Little friends

… and chose Christmas pressies from the toy catalog!

Reading in the sun

… all in all… a prefect summer’s day:)

“Little friends” is gorgeous-est

Corey~livingandloving (70 comments.) - November 11, 2009 - 7:39 am

it is always on interesting post for me when I realize you are going into summer.

I know it seems dumb to you, but would you consider doing a post on here or the other blog, about what it is like to have Christmas in a summer environment. I mean….what is on the wrapping paper, and the decorations? snowmen? and penguins? I’m so curious!

Madelein (32 comments.) - November 11, 2009 - 7:16 am

Lol- those toy catalogues are still going to be the death of me. And how sweet is our two littlies??

Avril (Mom) (385 comments.) - November 11, 2009 - 6:51 am

Lovely!!! Connor told me that Carmen is his ‘best friend’ !!

Karin (117 comments.) - November 10, 2009 - 11:09 pm

Wow, what lovely sunny weather! The weather in the Cape is totally horrendous at the moment – no sign of summer anywhere. It’s hard to believe that you are having such great days while we are fighting the storms over here – enjoy!!

What a gorgeous day – love the one of Connor and Carmen :)

Mastering the pool table

These have to be my favourite photos from the Lent for Liam function at Cool Runnings earlier today.  In fact, I’d go as far as to say, they’re my favourite photos in a very long time.  I think it’s because it shows the kids not worrying about my camera and having so much fun learning a new skill.

Yes, before you say it in the comments, it was a bar.  It was actually the first time my boys had been in one, and they found it fascinating… especially when the band was doing a sound check for the party later in the evening:)  LOL they were walking around with their fingers in their ears because of the noise.

They had been watching a couple playing pool at a table, and decided to try it themselves.  In fact, watching them watch the couple was funny too.  Before the kids arrived they’d been snogging nicely in the corner and quietly playing a bit of pool… then the kids arrived and kept asking them questions about what they were doing:)  LOL they didn’t kiss and cuddle much after that… wonder why?!:)

I loved that the other patrons were quite happy to let them play, and in fact, a group of guys waited for the other table to finish up rather than forcing their hand with the kids. Or maybe they just knew better, and knew that the bar would be quieter and saner that way!

These are without a doubt, my Weekly Winners this week.

The Jackson Files (12 comments.) - November 11, 2009 - 11:02 am

Absolutely great shots, Jeannette! They look like little “profi’s” and I loved your little story behind :)
..and again, your little boy is adorable how he wants to play also, highly concentrated and with the help of his big brother! It’s just perfect!

Avril (Mom) (385 comments.) - November 8, 2009 - 7:01 pm

Oh wow !! These are amazing photos! I can imagine Connor getting a little frustrated though, being shorter! Bradley and Cameron’s faces of concentration are brilliant! I am surprised they allowed them to play though

Jac @ Wuzzlemakesthree (1 comments.) - November 8, 2009 - 6:29 pm

All of those shots are just beautiful!

But I have to say, there is just something about kids and pool tables. I love watching kids play pool, there is nothing more fun than that!

Gilz (177 comments.) - November 8, 2009 - 6:28 pm

WOW generally the bars don’t let kids play on their pool tables. These are lovely pictures.

Lent for Liam

I went to the Lent for Liam Thanksgiving shindig today that was held at Cool Runnings in Fourways.

Liam is the son of a local blogger, Wenchy, who has got ADHD and needs to go to remedial school.  Basically, his mom can’t afford the school fees for next year, and we’ve been raising money for him for a few months now.  Today’s event was to essentially get more money pay for his fees.

Here’s an extract from the information on the Facebook page:

Liam was diagnosed with ADHD when he was five years old. He also suffers from anxiety, panic attacks and depression.
Liam is currently in a main stream education environment where he is not coping. He receives remedial assistance on a weekly basis (as that is all his Mom can provide at the moment) as his basic reading and writing skills are very poor. His reading at 13, equals that off an 8 year old.
There is a professional who acts as Liam’s “scribe” as he cannot articulate information he knows into writing, an educational psychologist meets with Liam weekly and he attends a psychiatric hospital monthly to oversee his medication.
Liam is going to high school next year. Professional opinion is that Liam will not cope in a main stream environment – academically, socially nor emotionally.

I took the kids with me, and they had a ball playing with Laura’s kids (more photos from that later)… and found the pub and the grounds fascinating and were surprisingly not bored even though it was really not child friendly:)Thankfully the place was quiet, and the kids could run amok and shout and scream without too many people moaning;)
