Robbie and Cara met in Johannesburg, and live in Dubai and came all the way back to South Africa to celebrate their wedding with their family and friends.

I met Cara a few months ago, and after chatting to her for a while, I knew that this was going to be a very special wedding. I do enjoy finding out more about the couples’ whose weddings I photograph, because it makes the day so much more special. In their case, we did the couple shoot at Wits University… it was close to the reception in Braamfontein… and that’s where they met! OK, we didn’t do their couple shoot at the ski club… but it was close enough. Not only was the light perfect while we used the beautiful buildings, but we managed to get a few photos with the jacarandas… which perfectly complimented their colour scheme!

They got married at the most beautiful church in Johannesburg, the Rosebank Catholic Church. It’s a photographer’s dream with the gorgeous high ceilings and enough light that you don’t need flash at all. Then, their reception was also at one of my favourite venues in the city! It was held at Shine Studios in Braamfontein. You just cannot beat the view of the city skyline with the Nelson Mandela bridge, from that venue! It’s just spectacular.

And the idea behind their reception worked so well at Shine Studios. Their reception was an Italian “Sagra“. They’d travelled to Umbria and were taken with the feasts that take place in small villages, and wanted the same thing for their wedding. So there were long tables with lots of candles and the focus was on everyone having a good time listening to music and chatting… and eating!
