When I met Ross and Bonita at a restaurant months ago to chat about their wedding, and they said it was going to be steampunk themed, I was excited. After doing their steampunk themed engagement shoot a few months ago in Cullinan, I got even more excited. Then when we drove into the small quaint village of Kaapsehoop on a misty day, and walked into the reception and saw all the decor… oh wow! It was a photographers dream!

It was just an incredible day… the only thing missing were the wild horses that are normally found wandering around the town. We were so very lucky with the weather, and during the couple shoot we had a bit of sun which gave beautiful flare, and then the mist started rolling in, yet we were left with most beautiful soft cloudy light. Thankfully the heavy mist only enveloped the town later that evening… although one or two images in the proper mist would have been interesting :)

Notice the lamps on the tables… aren’t they most impressive? Bonita’s dad made them by hand! He even stripped light bulbs to rethread them as LED globes. The switches were housed in the little boxes with Danger written on them. Oh and I love that they used the engagement photos in their decor.

Every person’s name tag was designed by Bonita, and the names reflected what they do or something about their personalities… was so awesome.

Isn’t the hat magnificent? Notice the clock? Well, every clock that they made was set to 3pm (the time of the wedding)… whether it was on the hat, or on the table decor or on the men’s brooches. Oh and they’d set the date on all the clocks to the 13th. So very clever!

Bonita’s dad also made the bouquet piping

It was awesome that so many of their guests dressed for the theme too!

Just before they entered the reception, Bonita slipped away to reveal her party outfit…

Bet you can guess what they were dancing to? :)

What a special town to have a wedding!
