The joys of having boys… a few weeks ago I posted about Bradley getting hurt at school, and this time it’s Connor’s turn.  This actually happened on Saturday but I haven’t had the chance to blog about it before now.  These stories normally go on my other blog, but anyhoo…

I met up with Madi and her kids on Saturday morning for a playdate and coffee at Lemon Rose Farm.  We were quite impressed for a change, because they’ve moved the animals all around and the service wasn’t bad for a change, and we were having quite a good time until the incident.

First I need to set the scene.  There is a fenced off area next to the play area that used to house the geese and pigs.  In the middle of this enclosure is a pond with an island in the middle of it and a little wooden bridge.  The animals have been moved and the gate was open and all the kids were playing and running through both areas.  All the kids were running over the little bridge and happily playing on the island.

As you can see in this photo, he was very happy playing on the island and throwing sand and sticks into the water.

I turned my back on him for 2 minutes to take these gorgeous photos of Bradley

… when I heard him cry.

I looked up to see him soaking wet from head to toe! He’d fallen into the stinky duck pond, was submerged under water (because his hair was drenched) and managed to climb out all by himself.  I have no idea how long he was under water.  Thank God he couldn’t have swallowed any water because by now he would have had tummy problems.  I’m just very very glad that he managed to climb out by himself, because there were 5 parents in the play area at the same time as me, and none of us saw it happen! We were right there!!!

And then the management of the place just looked at me dumbly when I told them to lock the gate to the pond! In fact, they also looked at me dumbly when I marched into the kitchen asking for a tea towel to dry him off.

I cannot explain how much he stank.  Lance had a bath ready for him by the time we got home, so that he didn’t catch too much of a chill, and even though we washed his hair twice, we couldn’t get the smell out of his hair.

I’m convinced he has 3 guardian angels that watch over him.  This wild child of mine.
