Bad night at camera club

I went to camera club last night, and I had shocking results.  So vastly different to last month, but that seems to be my trend… I have one good month, and then a bad month (just to cut my ego back down to size!).

Silver – Winter Tree – Landscape category – they didn’t like that the tree was partly cut off.  The telephone pole was ‘disturbing’ and the bark was too dark.

Silver – Masked Michael Jackson fan – Photojournalist category – the light behind him is too bright, and I should have brought the exposure down by one stop.

Gold – Horse Whisperer – Pictorial category – They liked it a lot, and they liked the story it told, but said that the photo was too tightly cropped.

Oh well, maybe next month will be better:)

Ah Jeanette they are fab – I agree with what everyone else has said..and CAN NOT WAIT to see what you do with us on Sunday :) Every shot will be a GOLD!

I agree, don’t let them get you down. Photography is art and one person’s perspective of something really great could be something that someone else doesn’t find appealing at all. Keep your chin up they are great!

P.S. sorry I haven’t been around lately, I am horribly behind on my blog reading as of late. Summer has hit us full force and I am scarce because of it.

I wish I belonged to a camera club that offered that kind of insight (it helps both good and bad I think). Your work is still beautiful.. and I don’t see anything wrong at all with horse whisper photo..

Your photo’s are still amazing Jeanette and I know it’s hard when someone crits your photo’s in a negative way…I’m been there :)

Why did they say the telephone pole is disturbing. Its part of the landscape. Its like saying a portrait photo is not up to scratch because the person has a mole.

your photos are beautiful and I love the tree especially… love the way it is cropped off. Makes it much more interesting!

Beauty and photography for that matter is in the eye of the beholder. I stil love love love the photo of the man with the mask. Sometimes I would like to give the judges a camera in the same circumstances and see if they can do a better job. It is one thing to sit back and point out all th wrongs when you have time to do so , quite different if you are in the thick of things and have to shoot to capture the moment … I still think you are the best!!!!

I wouldn’t let them break you down J! Your photographs are always so good – it’s about capturing moments in time that are important, not what the judges say. I like the tree I must say, and the telephone pole adds a different dimension for me! Well done! :)
