We took the kids to the Military Museum on Monday, primarily to scout the place out as a shoot location… but I found it sadly lacking for artistic inspiration.
Anyhoo, it was a nice morning out, and I’m glad we actually went there. Lance and I haven’t been there since our school days. It was fascinating and depressing. I actually found it quite sad looking at the bullet ridden planes, and old uniforms and the guns etc.
I suppose that’s the aim of the place in the end… to make sure we don’t forget. Some of the exhibits that stand out for me are the German planes from the World Wars (it reminded me of the school project I did on WW2 that my grandfather helped me with); shooting plaques from Rhodesia (because that’s where I was born); uniforms from the Angolan and SWA conflicts (I remember school friends’ brothers and fathers fighting that war); and Lance showing Bradley which weapons he used when he was in the army (he was a weapons instructor). Funny, that most of the things I remember about the place, have got some personal link to me and my own history.

I really love everything about that middle shot. It is very cool!

It seems very similar to our South African Airforce Museum here in PE.

Interesting! Yes – it’s years since visiting there. Like the one with Bradley and the plane – boys are always fascinated with army stuff. Love the blue sky in the last one.

[...] addition to the War museum, we also took the kids to Emmerentia Dam on Monday… now that’s a much better photo [...]
I also find these museums depressing, but interesting at the same time – I love the second shot!
