The piper leads the way

Bradley started Grade 0 today, and there was a school assembly this morning which all the parents were invited to, which was followed by a champagne breakfast under the trees.  And of course, I went with my trusty camera:)

A sea of boater hats and caps at assembly

One of the traditions at the school is called the “Short Walk”.  The whole school forms 2 parallel lines through the grounds of the school leading to the Senior Primary classrooms.  The Grade 4′s (who are now leaving Junior Primary), turn their blazers inside out; the girls put their boater hats under their arms and bash them, and the boys turns their caps inside out.  They are then led through the pathways by a bagpiper to their new classrooms.

It was such a special thing to watch!

Look at all those wonderful hats in that first show. And than bagpipes too! Definitely sounds like a wonderful event for the kids. The b/w shots totally fit with the event too.

What an awesome traditional South African school you are sending your son to.
Here in Germany they dont have school uniforms and everyone looks so sloppy – nothing like a neat school uniform with years of tradition.
Thanks for sharing.
I went to a convent school so know all about tradition – uniforms, blazers and those dreaded hats!! In high school its just was not cool to be seen wearing those hats….hehe

Oh wow! You must tell me what school he goes to. The blazers look like CBC blazers! Good traditions and great that the children have them. Seems a modern thing to ignore, but I think its important.

Oh wow – that’s a goose-bump moment!! So nice that they have created traditions (it’s a fairly ‘young’ school) – long may it continue!
